Ever wish you could have a little taste of Thanksgiving whenever? I love the taste of stuffing, gravy, and cranberries…these are some favorites from my childhood that together conjure memories of special family times. Finally, I decided those flavors could come together any time in a Thanksgiving Nut Mix!
My inspiration came from something my son decided we should do several years back. Right before Thanksgiving, he and a teacher were talking about how many leftovers there were after the big meal and listing all the ways they could be used. Donovan was certain they could be made into a pizza, and Mr. Henson challenged him with “Do it.” So, we did! If we could do Thanksgiving Pizza (hmmmm maybe I’ll save that one for next year), why not a Thanksgiving nut mix?
Once I got going with the other nut mix flavors (see that post with recipes here), I simply HAD to continue and create this new recipe. I’ve tweaked and tested and still the jury’s out on which is the best. So, I’ll include some options for you to try and choose your own personal favorite!
Thanksgiving Nut Mix
- 1 egg white
- 16-18 oz mixed salted nuts of your choice (I used almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds and butternut squash seeds)
- 1 Tbsp sage or poultry seasoning
- 1 Tbsp beef bone broth powder (I found this W30 compliant at Walmart)
- (You could also add ¾ tsp salt and/or ¼ tsp pepper for a “brighter” taste, but I think it tastes more Thanksgiving-y without it)
- 1 c dried cranberries (I found these W30 compliant at Sprouts)
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Whisk the egg white in a large bowl with a fork until frothy. Pour in nuts and toss to coat. Pour spices over nuts and toss again to distribute spices evenly.
Pour onto half-baker sheet lined with foil or parchment paper for easiest cleanup and spread out to one even layer. Roast for 16 minutes, stirring halfway through. Allow nuts to fully cool, and then stir in cranberries. Store in air-tight container. They’re not as crunchy while warm so be patient and let them fully cool before digging in!
Enjoy this nut mix or create your own!
This is the same method I used in my other nut mixes. Super simple to repeat and get creative once you know what to do. Just about any combination of 2 Tbsp of spice to a pound or a little more of nuts, and you can create something new to fit your taste. Get creative with your family this season!
You can even try two at once if you split the nuts into separate bowls after you coat with the egg white. Season each set differently, then separate onto different pieces of foil like I did. Share your own creation in the comments below! Or send it to me on Instagram and I’ll share in my story! (I’m at @missmelliecooks)
