I have a confession to make. Seems like when things heat up on the outside, things heat up on the inside, too, and my temper may flare. On blistering summer days, a cold treat can even out your body temp and your mood! Who wouldn’t love one of these tasty milkshakes to take the edge off the heat?
Of course, now that I’ve discovered dairy is such a problem for my tummy, I have to be more careful, but getting creative with milkshake flavors can be as much fun as drinking them and sharing with friends. These ideas (and the pics) are courtesy of my friend Debbie. Yes, apparently foodies attract foodie friends!
Milkshake base
Full fat vanilla ice cream is the best bet here. Have some whole milk on hand if you need to thin it down to blend well. (This is not a Whole30 idea obviously. BUT I plan to try this coconut milk strawberry milkshake soon!)
PB&J Milkshake
Everyone loves PB&J…why not in a milkshake? Peanut butter can be paired with whatever jelly flavor they want if you wish to make that offer. But, of course, time-honored grape is a safe bet to be a hit! Add a swoosh of whipped cream on top and sprinkle with Reese’s pieces.
Chocolate Malted Milkshake
Malted milk and chocolate syrup make this classic milkshake come together. Top your whipped cream with chocolate chips to finish it off. Or since my husband love malted milk balls, I might crush some of those to top this.
Banana Pudding Milkshake
Add some vanilla pudding mix to your ice cream base and then banana chunks. You could even top this one with mini vanilla wafers.
Strawberry Cheesecake Milkshake
Let your cream cheese come to room temp before adding a small chunk to your blender with berries or syrup. Reserve some pieces of strawberry for the top or crush and sprinkle with graham crackers.
That cute rim…the perfect touch
Melt some chocolate or white candy bark (or dark, milk or white chocolate chips) to dip those mug rims, then quickly shower with the appropriately colored sprinkles to make those shakes a party in a mug!
Make it a milkshake bar
Having a crowd? Let them make their own shake (you’d want to borrow extra blenders to do this) or have ‘em pre-made. I guarantee this milkshake bar will make headlines!
