When my husband lost his job in 2009, I needed to feed our family for less. A few years later, I found myself fighting some health challenges, some of which I suspected might be related to our food. I asked a friend about the Whole30 and thus began my journey for healthier eating.
I continued the grocery savings strategies I had learned and started adding to them, plus refining the kinds of foods we ate and the ways I cooked. If I can do this, I promise you can too! I’m a fairly normal, 50+, fully-employed housewife and mother of almost-grown kids who just happens to cook and eat a lot of really great, home-cooked, whole food without spending an arm and a leg.
Somewhere along the way, people started asking me questions about what I was doing and how. Lots of people…lots of questions. Then I saw a friend’s Facebook post that said, “No matter what, it’s always cheaper (in food and my time) to eat out.” That did it…challenge accepted!
So, while I’ve been cooking better and smarter, and saving lots of money along the way, now I’m also looking for (and finding!) ways to prep and cook faster than ever before and teaching others. It’s a work in progress, I’m still experimenting and learning, but I’ll share strategies here to help you get the healthy, home-cooked meals you crave and still have a life!
