Have you looked in people’s carts at the grocery store? What is it they’re buying? It’s more like what isn’t it! It’s simply not food. When I see 12-packs of soda and several large bags of chips, I wanna ask, “Where are your veggies, fruits, and fresh meats? Where is the fuel for your body? Where’s your REAL food?”
Our church had a Wednesday night meal where they provided the entrée and each family brought something to share. One Wednesday, I found several ears of corn in the fridge. So, I broke them in half, boiled them, and carted them off to church. To my surprise, one little boy got so excited he asked his dad if he could have two pieces! He was excited about boiled corn, people! This clinched it in my mind: these kids are hungry for REAL food.
What is it?
So many things we eat in our society are just not actually food any more. Have you read any of the labels on your favorite boxed or frozen items lately? Leann Ely of savingdinner.com says, “If you don’t know what those ingredients are, you shouldn’t be eating them.” And she’s right. My Bible study book echoed that idea, too (“Becoming the Woman God Wants Me to Be” if you’re interested!).
Plus, you might be surprised how many things include sugar or a sweetener of some kind. (If you’ve ever done the Whole30, you know how long that list of sneaky sugars is!) If you’re trying to limit sweets at your house but are using pre-packaged processed food, I can almost guarantee there’s more sugar in there than you might know. And lots more salt, too!
You need REAL food to fuel your body!
Bottom line, growing kids (and adults under daily grind stress) need REAL food to grow strong bodies and strong habits to carry them through life. Honor the beautiful miracle that is the human body by giving it the fuel it needs most…REAL food!
(You can start by simply replacing chemical-ridden spice mixes with ones you made at home. My favorites are here!)

A hearty “Amen” to this! And to think we actually have to teach people what real food is…so sad! My dentist couldn’t believe my daughters never had soda growing up and only had one cavity between the two. Yep. True story! Glad you are spreading some healthy advice! Keep it up!
