The natural way to get rid of foot cramps

I was desperate for a way to get rid of foot cramps at night! Horrible pain would wake me up feeling like my big toe was reaching for my heel. I could even stand up on that foot, and STILL the toe would try to reach the heel…through the floor! What could I do? I had to have relief!

Supplements caused problems

When the cramps started moving up into my calf and sometimes quad and hamstring, I knew I had to do something. My first thought was to tell my chiropractor as he has a more natural and holistic approach to aches and pains. He increased my intake of a certain supplement and just like that, the foot cramps and their pain went away. I was astounded! But it’s never just that easy…

After my next annual physical and its bloodwork, I got a call from the nurse. “Your kidneys show some levels that could lead to damage. Have you changed anything in your diet or vitamins lately?” Yep, they immediately tagged the increase in that supplement as the culprit since it’s possible the manufacturer is putting things in the tablets that I don’t know about.

If you haven’t experienced this for yourself, medical doctors and chiropractors aren’t famous for getting along. In a nutshell, most medical doctors think chiropractic is kinda “flaky,” and chiropractors think medical doctors default too quickly to medications.

My medical doctor wanted me to stop that supplement and have another urinalysis. Well, I took my dosage back down to its original level, had the test, and all was fine. But I knew the cramps would be back.

Can’t believe he suggested this

So, I asked my doctor what I could do to get rid of the foot cramps. And I couldn’t believe his suggestion! He said, “There’s this stuff you can buy at the hardware store…” WHAT??? You think my organic supplement might not be safe, but you want me to drink something I bought at a hardware store???

Yeah, I was NOT happy with this answer. And really, wouldn’t you be skeptical of health products sold there? The name was Old Amish Remedy, and he said I might be able to make it at home. So, you guessed it, I “googled” it.

Does it have to be so hard to find this recipe?

Ads, ads, and more ads…that’s what I found. Buy it here, buy it over here…nope, I wanna make it myself. I figure if I make it, I KNOW what’s in it…it’s that simple. There are several Amish remedies, but I finally found a video for the one I wanted that included ingredients AND amounts in the comments! (Though she put onion in the comments, she did not include it in the video so I have never used the onion.)

I’m the only one who uses it in our house so I didn’t want to make as much as she listed just in case I had to throw it away. So, here’s the scaled down recipe. I needed to have it in print so I didn’t have to watch the video each time…always looking to save time!

Ingredients for Old Amish Remedy: apple cider vinegar, garlic and ginger root

Old Amish Remedy

  • 4 oz apple cider vinegar
  • 1/8 tsp grated ginger root
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic

Combine all in a jar with tight lid and shake to mix. Let “steep” for a week before using. Drink 1 tsp per day in 6-8 ounces of water. This amount lasts me almost 3 weeks. Make sure you make a new batch a week before you need it!

When I first started using this, it took about a week to kick in originally. Then when I took a trip without it, it took about a week to wear off again. So it’s something you wanna keep up with regularly for sure!
