With only 5 hours in Epcot, and SO many wonderful foods I wanted to try, I did my best speed walking. I made it quickly to each location AND partially worked off all the food I was eating! Here’s the rest of the goodies from my “World Food Festival” adventure!
Having options is always a challenge for me…especially when there so many flavors I would like to try. But this trip gave me good practice as I simply couldn’t try everything they had. I got some things I would like and some things I knew others might enjoy so I could share.
The Fry Basket and Coastal Eats
Not all options were distinctly ethnic, but they were tasty! On her initial trip to the World Food Festival, Debbie and her family checked out the Fry Basket’s Fry Flight. (L to R Sea Salt and Malt Vinegar Fries, Barbecued Bacon Fries, and Sweet Potato Casserole Fries with Candied Pecans, Toasted Marshmallow Cream and Caramel Whiskey.) They raved!
But I went for the more exotic Adobo Yuca Fries with Garlic-Cilantro Aioli. I had tasted Yuca fries once before, but decided it was worth getting them here. They did not disappoint. I love a crispy fry, and while these were thicker, they were ultra-crispy and flavorful.
To fill my husband’s need for seafood, I chose the Baked Scampi Dip from Coastal Eats. It included shrimp and scallops with baguette slices for dipping. Very savory and garlicky, but a little runnier than I expected (the cheese hid that from sight). I might have liked it better with just shrimp (I’m not a big seafood gal). But my husband enjoyed it, so I get points for that!
On to the Far East
My very first stop was for Banh Mi Bao with Char-Grilled Asian Skirt Steak, Chicken Liver Aioli, and Pickled Vegetables. I’ve been wanting to try a recipe of Banh Mi at home. This convinced me…I will be making this at home! Well, minus the bread.
The meat was tender and savory, set off by the delicately pickled veggies. There was sauce on there, but honestly, with so many flavors, I certainly couldn’t distinguish a liver taste. If I hadn’t been planning to eat a lot of other things, I would have gone for seconds!
We ended up not getting the Grilled Pork Shoulder Wraps with Corn Salsa, Pickled Red Onion and Cilantro-Lime Crema. It was Debbie’s family’s favorite overall. I just had to pass…hey, I couldn’t eat everything!
Of course, you can’t just get a regular drink with these wonderful flavor options. So, in the China section, I opted for Passion Fruit Bubble Tea. Sweet, and fruity, with just enough bitter from the tea and yummy Boba, it hit the spot. It’s pictured below with my Kenyan food.
And finally, Africa! (and my favorite from the World Food Festival!)
From Morocco, I chose the Stone-baked Moroccan Bread with Hummus, Chermoula, and Zhoug dips. Nothing special about the hummus, but the Zhoug (the redder dip pictured) was especially tasty and gently spicy. The Chermoula wasn’t bad, I simply liked the Zhoug better. And the bread was super light and fluffy inside.
But my favorite was from Kenya…the Coffee Barbecued Beef Tenderloin with Sweet-Potato-and-Corn Mealie Pap and Kachumbari Slaw. That’s a mouthful even in the name! It was SO tasty I can’t fully describe it. But if I could go back and only get one thing, this would be it. And that’s high praise!
