Food Adventures: Disney’s California Grill

This scenic top-notch restaurant is offering a special menu for Disney’s 50th Anniversary as well as a grand view of the Magic Kingdom’s Main Street fireworks display. If you’re looking for tasty food adventures, Disney’s California Grill certainly delivers…but good luck choosing what to get!

In the end, we gave up on deciding, and our party of five finally ordered a wide variety specifically to taste several options. This is a fun compromise when dining with friends and family who are okay with sharing. Everything was great, but we each had our favorites.

Appetizers

California Grill's Sushi Trio and Duck a l'Orange pizza

After much debate, we finally ordered the California Grill Sushi Classics Trio (which included Blue Crab California Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, and Spicy Kazan Roll), the Duck a l’Orange Pizza (both pictured above), the Lobster and Parsnip Bisque, and the Braised Beef Short Rib Wontons (both pictured below).

I loved my choice of the Sushi Trio, but surprisingly, my second fave was the Duck pizza. Even though I typically don’t care for Blue Cheese and arugula, the overall combination was quite tasty.

Entrées

Here we only chose 3 things: Oak-Fired Filet of Beef, Florida Coast Black Grouper, and Monterey Bay Cioppino.

Grouper, cioppino and Fillet of Beef

The grouper was poised on a bed of Herbed Basmati Rice and topped with Cashew Chutney, surrounded by a moat of Bok Choy, Baby Shitake, and Green Curry-Coconut Nage (sauce) with microgreens. My daughter (the physical trainer) said I made the healthiest choice. The sweetness of the coconut was a little much with this combination though.

The Cioppino included Pink Shrimp, Clams, Mussels, Scallops, and Butterfish in a Tomato Broth, with Uni Butter and Crab Sourdough alongside. Great for my seafood-loving family members!

I had the grouper but ended up liking the Filet of Beef best (especially with those Black Truffle-Brown Butter Chateau Potatoes!). “Melt in your mouth” – seriously!

And the desserts!

For this course, we chose only 2 of the 5 options, but one included a taste of 6 different desserts so we covered our bases for sure.

I opted for the Valrhona Chocolate Torte…I mean if I’m off plan, I’m gonna get the good stuff! And it certainly did not disappoint. So rich, dark and creamy…completely different from the chocolate on the 5 bites plate. And the candied peanuts were a nice touch, too.

Valrhona Chocolate Torte and 5 Magical Bites!

The Five Magical Bites/50 Years in the Making were the chefs of the last 50 years choices for their best desserts. They included the flavors of Honey cake, Lemon curd, Carrot cake, Strawberry cake, Chocolate, and Raspberry Fool.

California Grill was tops!

The view was fabulous (great place to see those fireworks), the service was impeccable, and of course, the food was top choice. If you head to Orlando during this 50th Anniversary celebration, definitely plan ahead for reservations at the California Grill for your own dining adventure!

BTW this isn’t a sponsored post, just my own personal opinion of my experience here.
