Food Adventures: Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort…At least go for the food!

I love a Disney vacation like the next guy, but I’m not gonna lie…it can be expensive. And of course, the cool thing to do would be stay at one of their resorts so you can hop around, maybe have an all-inclusive experience, etc. All I can say is this: if you can’t stay at the Wilderness Lodge Resort, at least go for the food!

We are blessed with a friend who is a Disney Vacation Club member, so he knows all the ins and outs, all the best deals, and all the ways to get in places quicker. He’s in charge when we take our annual trip to Orlando. We generally stay in a condo so I can cook a few meals, but then he gets reservations at some of the resort restaurants.

I think this year’s resort food might be my favorite so far! The Wilderness Resort has 4 restaurant options…and we hit 3 of ‘em!

Geyser Point Bar & Grill

What a wonderful, cozy atmosphere…watching rain all around us (it’s an open air, waterfront grill) yet still comfortably warm. So many tempting items on the menu here! We started with the handcrafter cheese and charcuteries appetizer, but it went so fast, I didn’t even get a picture!

Even if you can't stay at the Wilderness Lodge Resort, go for the food!

Then in the interest of trying something new, I went for the Bison Cheeseburger with Sweet Crispy Onion Straws and found I really liked it! The meat was very savory, grilled to perfection (I like medium well but not too pink), and tasted very similar to beef…I guess not surprising since they are in the same family (bovine). The meat connisseurs at Omaha Steaks note specific differences between bison and beef (see those here), but without having them side by side, I didn’t notice any difference. I only know it was just plain good!

Whispering Canyon Café

My supper dish here was The Land and Sea, featuring smoked salmon, citrus-herb chicken and spicy vegan sausage. Lest you think I ONLY eat meat, it also included charred portobella mushrooms, bbq cauliflower, roasted potatoes, sautéed green beans AND oven-roasted carrots in an unlimited quantity. WOW!

Chicken and sausage for Land and salmon for Sea...The Land and Sea Skillet...a great collection of meats and veggies!

I think the best part of this restaurant though was the atmosphere. Frontier attitude, lots of yelling across the room, and several “signature” gags (do NOT ask for the ketchup or to go to the restroom!) made for a hilarious evening.

Territory Lounge

I have to admit my favorite was the before supper “snack” we had at this small lounge area. The crispy Loaded Baked Potato Flatbread was super tasty, including bacon, cream cheese, dill and green peas. I think I probably would’ve been happy with just having one of those for my supper. As it was, we shared between the 4 of us, just to try it out. Sooooo worth it!

Gotta go for the food!

My daddy’s rule when traveling was to eat somewhere unique that you couldn’t find anywhere else. Definitely fulfilled that rule with the food at the Wilderness Lodge Resort. I’m still making my daddy proud.

BTW this isn’t a sponsored post, just my own personal opinion of my experience here.
