Keeping calm at the grocery store

I was surprised when I suddenly found myself feeling the anxiety over COVID-19. I’d had this pretty much under control for a while, but it finally snuck up on me. So many questions circled my brain, stealing my calm.

Do I need to go to the store?
Do I need to go to several stores? (mental map of every store between where I was and home)
Will they close down stores?
Will what I have last long enough?
How can I make sure I can take care of my family?

I admitted my fears to my daughter, and she had some sage advice. After mulling that over, I’ve put together this little list for keeping your calm at the store…oh and by the way, letting God carry those fears and anxieties is the BEST idea to put into action!

Before you go to the store…

1) Make a list of what you NEED. Think super simple recipes. (Need some? Email me at missmellie@missmelliecooks.com) What do you really need? Leave the rest for others!

2) Choose one store for everything if you can. Check online for their current opening time.

3) Go early! Either take a book or play solitaire on your phone or even better, take the opportunity to encourage those in line with you. (And if you’re in Middle Tennessee, take your hooded raincoat or umbrella!)

4) Keep calm as you go through the aisles. The anxiety is contagious but fight against it, and you may help someone else maintain their own calm.

5) Return home grateful for what you have!

I hope these steps help you keep calm as you go through this current challenge. Consider yourselves virtually HUGGED!!! (Everybody needs that in today’s state of “social distancing.”)
