Is your life in a holding pattern?
I awoke at 3:45 this morning. Anxious thoughts whirled through my mind unbridled. It definitely took effort to pin them down, but the gist was this: I’m living life as if it were in a holding pattern. My daily actions don’t seem to accomplish anything. Each item is waiting on someone or something else. I find myself repeatedly chastising myself for “wasting” time.

I’ve found various ingredients out of stock during this quarantine period, but so far that hasn’t stopped my cooking efforts. I was only able to find bone-in chicken thighs this shopping trip. So, I skinned my own!

Plato said, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” And I would add, “When the store shelves get sparse, we cooks gotta get creative!” Particulary true right now in COVID-19 times. Again I think it’s best to have your list ready and go early for the best choice of options. But when you can’t find the ingredients you wanted, what else would work?

I was surprised when I suddenly found myself feeling the anxiety over COVID-19. I’d had this pretty much under control for a while, but it finally snuck up on me. So many questions circled my brain, stealing my calm.
Do I need to go to the store?
Do I need to go to several stores? (mental map of every store between where I was and home)
Will they close down stores?
Will what I have last long enough?
How can I make sure I can take care of my family?
Bulk buying could boost your savings (and save your sanity!)
Life is ever changing and more challenging…today our big concern is the Coronavirus COVID-19. There’s so much unknown that we face free-floating anxiety…with no way to relieve it! When everyone hit the stores for toilet tissue, chips and cooking oil (really? Why was that what they went for in my neighborhood?), I stocked up on meat that was happily on sale!

When I started my savings journey in 2009, I had no idea what I paid for anything at the grocery store. It’s not that hard, I just wasn’t paying attention. Ten years of looking at every price has really paid off…and I do mean “paid” as in saving lots of money. But how do you know what the best price is? You need a strategy!
